Questions Arising Today From A Mutiny In 1789
P199192-07
Description

In 1789, a small sailing ship left Portsmouth, England, for the Pacific. It was to collect bread-fruit plants in Tahiti and transport them to the West Indies, where they were to be planted to provide food for slaves. The ship never reached its destination because the crew seized it from the captain by force. The name of the ship was "The Bounty".

What were the conditions on board "The Bounty" that led the crew to rebel? How did the individual sailors come to make such a decision? How did their rank affect their decision? Did they perceive the oppression they experienced as only a result of one man's wrong-doing?

These are just some of the questions arising from that mutiny in 1789 - What relevance do they have today?
