In 1789, a small sailing ship left Portsmouth, England, for the Pacific. It was to collect bread-fruit plants in Tahiti and transport them to the West Indies, where they were to be planted to provide food for slaves. The ship never reached its destination because the crew seized it from the captain by force. The name of the ship was "The Bounty".
