Hobson's Choice
P198687-13
Description

The story of Hobson's Choice takes place in the Western District of Hong Kong during the late 1940's. It relates the battle of wits between the proud owner of a shoemaker's shop and his three motherless daughters who strive for the freedom of marriage.

The eldest daughter, heroine of this comedy of family relationships, reverses her fate of becoming an 'old maid' through her insight and determination. She grasps her own marital security by working with her chosen bridegroom to establish their own business, and also arranges successful marriages for her younger sisters.

Adapted from Harold Brig-house's famous play, the dialogue makes bold use of the Hong Kong colloquialism used in 1947, so that younger audiences can be effectively transported back in time to a Hong Kong of almost 40 years ago. For older audiences, their nostalgic memories of their era will be further sparked off by imaginative and faithful 'period' costumes and decor.
