Insect World
P198485-14
Description

A tramp wanders through the country-side. Exhausted, he falls on the ground and sleeps. He dreams that he shrinks to the size of the insects which inhabit the world of grass around him. With great humour he observes and comments on the eccentricities and obsessions of the various species. The beetles and their greed fascinate him the ants and their lust for power disgust him but he entirely sympathizes with the young chrysalis waiting to be 'born' into an idealistic modern world.

This production is performed in secondary schools for audiences 14-16 years old who will share the tramp's hilarious and colourful adventures with seven young and dynamic actors. The tramp realizes that the "insect world" is cruel and nasty, and he insists that "man" is different - but is he?

Insect World is a satire on "modern man". Its use of poetic image, witty dialogue and contemporary music reminds people that whatever happens man's intense enthusiasm for life will triumph.
