Ko served as Chung Ying's Artistic Director from 1993 to 2018. He was the first Chinese Artistic Director of Chung Ying. He had also participated in Sleuth and On Golden Pond produced by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies.
Ko studied Social Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and obtained a Certificate of Education from The University of Hong Kong. He joined Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in 1983 as a full-time actor. He also adapted, directed and became Assistant Artistic Director in 1989. His significant productions include I Have A Date with Spring, The Mad Phoenix and Noise Off.
Ko was awarded a scholarship by the Asian Culture Council to study in America in 1987. He worked as a Drama Lab Assistant for the Circle Repertory Theatre in New York Off-Broadway, where he was Assistant Director of Borderline. He also worked as an instructor for the Drama Outreach Programme organised by the Lincoln Centre.
Throughout his career, he has been an avid supporter of Hong Kong's arts and cultural development. He was named the 1991 Artist of the Year from the Hong Kong Artists' Guild, gained 'Outstanding Achievements of the Decade' from the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies in 1994, and won 'The Best Director' twice from the Hong Kong Drama Awards in 1995 and 2008 with The School and I and Tuesdays with Morrie respectively. The Secretary for Home Affairs awarded Ko as one of the 'Persons with Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Arts and Culture' under the Secretary's Commendation Scheme in 2006.
Ko was formerly advisor for Leisure and Cultural Services Department, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Art and Radio Television Hong Kong. He was also a former chairman of Hong Kong Arts Development Council Arts Promotion, Drama and Strategy Committee. And was member of Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies Committee, 'Entertainment Special Effects Ordinance' Appeal Board panel, the Advisory Committee on Admission of Quality Migrants and Professionals, the 2015/2016 Honorary Advisors of Hong Kong Union for Young Leaders and a member of the Advisory Committee on Elderly Service Community Centre of The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council.
